COST ELIMINATION BY REDUCING LANDFILL MATERIALS

The Problem

Major producers of plastic resins and secondary compounders generate purge and transition materials, during their polymer production and subsequent processing. These materials comprise of large lumps and also strands. Issues with these materials are : How to package and transport them Very low quality of polymer and many times it is contaminated. This low quality material could cause production problems and larger losses if mixed with other good product. So, these extrusion houses throw them in open top rolloffs and landfills gets filled with thousands and thousands of pounds of such materials

IEI Solution

These purge materials are brought into our facilities. Materials is sorted, cut and properly segregated by quality. Segregated lumps and strands can be ground and reused by blending, and low end commingled material which is used in applications like making plastic lumber.

IEI Responsibility

  • Take material in whatever form it is in, bulky or not.

  • Transport material in opentop rolloffs or in boxes based upon how the producer collects and stores the materials

  • Sort, grind and process materials as necessary.

  • Use materials in other non-critical applications.

  • Find low end markets where certain lower quality material can be used instead of throwing it in the landfill.

Benefits

  • Landfill cost elimination for the resin producer or compounder

  • Landfill volume elimination for the local county or area.

  • Business volume for our company.
